Japanese stainless steel of very high quality. It was created by Takefu Steel Ltd. Apparently, the "G" in the name is responsible for the "gold standard", i.e. the gold standard of the quality of this steel. VG-2 steel is characterized by:

      • High Corrosion Resistance: VG-2 steel has a high level of chromium and lowered level of carbon, which gives it excellent corrosion resistance and makes it resistant to staining and rusting.
      • Sharp edge: This steel is known for its ability to take a very sharp edge, making it a good choice for cutting tools that require precise cuts.
      • Edge Retention: Although very sharp the VG-2 edge is also known for its high resistance to chipping or breaking.
      • Ease Of Sharpening: Takefu Steel is often described as easy to sharpen, this feature is important for the users who maintain their tools at home.

This steel similar to all VG steels is made out of very well-refined, low-impurity raw material, which guarantees its outstanding mechanical properties (including high flexural strength, elongation, yield point and impact strength). It has excellent properties and structure required from stainless cutlery steel. It is characterized by an increased level of chromium and carbon higher than common stainless steels available on the market (although it has lower carbon content than VG1). The molybdenum content increases the toughness of this steel. Usually, it achieves a hardness of about 58 HRC. Overall, VG-2 steel is a high-quality choice for a wide range of cutting tools that require excellent corrosion resistance and the ability to take a very sharp edge.
